This is my attempt at a Charles Wilkin piece. I'm not too pleased with it but was a nice challenge. I think the difference with Charles is that his work is more mysterious, you're not quite sure what it is and his work is left to interpretation. If I were to have a second attempt at recreating his work I would add an element of mystery to the work, I would try cutting up different images to make the work almost confusing, I wouldn't use actual faces, perhaps next time I could cut them up to achieve the Charles Wilkin aesthetic. |
Here is my second attempt at the Charles Wilkin response and this time I tried to make the college as mysterious and unrecognisable as possible. I feel like the was a closer look at Wilkin's theme in his work however I simply believe that there's nobody that can do it the perfect way like how Wilkin does.

Here is a response to the leftover pieces of the images, this is a more abstract style to the response and to be quite honest I'm not quite sure what is going on however this was so fun to create. I'm not sure if I'm in love with the piece or not but there is a story behind it for me being attached to one of my favourite pieces I've ever made in GCSE photography. |

Alexander Mourant is a London based photographer whose work I'm in love with. I am obsessed with the 'old camera aesthetic' he created in his 'A self like Like Vertigo' film he made back in 2019. The 90s video camera style is my favourite style as it wasn’t that long but it adds a sense of nostalgia. To add there's a 'homey' feel to the style making it so personal which I love. I didn't have much to work with when I attempted a creation but I still tried as best possible to get an outcome I like. |
After having a look through the Sustainable Darkroom's website, I came across this image created by Alice Cazenave who we, fortunately, got to meet and were taught the company's process, I was so amazed. This image triggered me to wonder what was the process of the final outcome and makes me appreciate the company and their talent even more. The beautiful shade of blue is so easy on the eye with the bioplastic material which adds such a technical effect to the piece by expanding on their message and motto as an organisation. This piece explains to me the skill and mastery behind Alice and the Sustainable Darkroom that is beyond any workshop or lesson which I highly admire. |
To the right, is a personal image I took outside of school whilst I was visiting Brick Lane in Shoreditch. I thought this picture heavily related to the theme of constructed landscapes and I am absolutely in love with all of the different materials and textures in the image such as the brick wall covered by all the graffiti and posters. To accomplish the piece I used a FujiFilm camera and I am obsessed with the green filter it has. This image is a physical representation of my art style and why I am so involved with the subject as you are able to capture other people's work and rework it to make it become special to you. |
Here is another picture from the collection of prints I created. This was at a West Ham match back in February, not staged. I had to quickly grab a shot whilst the man was celebrating as it truly tells a story just by him posing. The only problem I have with the image is that the lens wasn't wide enough to get the entire stadium in the shot however I am still in love with it. I believe this is one of my favourite pictures ever taken by myself and only increases my love and passion for photography as I love the relaxed, natural style of work. |
